The ongoing story and saga of Rupert Murdock reminds us all about ethics, trust, corruption and beyond.
The question I have about the tactics that New of the World used is how can the managers and so called leader involved sleep at night? If these individuals had any personal values they would in my mind have to have questioned the ethics of hacking into other peoples cell phone and medical records.
Or am I wrong?? Does the journalism industry by right have to report the news no matter what!
What do you think??
This raises the issue of industry ethics verses personal ethics. How many times in your job are you asked to undertake a task that is counter to your personal ethics? For example if you worked in the food manufacturing industry and you are a vegetarian would you mind selling meat sourced overseas as local produced?
As a Certified Management Consultant CMC, there is a global standard of ethics called the CMC Code of Professional Conduct.
One of the areas that becomes an issue on a regular basis is the confidentiality of client information. For example I was recently on a RFP panel for a client and had consultants approach me for information. These approaches breached the rules of the tender and for the CMC's that approached me the breached the code of professional conduct which states "A Member will treat client information as confidential and will not take personal advantage of privileged information gained during an assignment, or enable others to do so".
Rest assured they got reminded of their obligations, and due to my ethical standards I did not breach the code!
So how many times a day do you get asked to breach your own professional code or that of your industry? What stance will you take?
